Transition Resilience

We enable an inclusive and fair energy transition to secure a dignified life for impacted workers and communities.

Given its vast solar potential, Rajasthan is well-positioned to benefit from the clean energy transition. Unlike coal-mining regions, it is not weighed down by the immense challenges of phasing out fossil fuels and stands to gain from new opportunities created by clean energy investments. However, the state has significant public and private investments in thermal power generation.

The energy transition presents complex challenges due to spatial differences in thermal and renewable energy infrastructure, deep multi-dimensional vulnerabilities of contractual and informal workers, and broader macroeconomic conditions.

CEEP's research and advocacy prioritises transition resilience for impacted workers and communities. It focuses on building appropriate safeguards and fostering an inclusive policy response to mitigate socio-economic transition risks.

What We Do

Undertaking Vulnerability Studies

Conducting research to understand the intersectional vulnerabilities of formal and informal workers, focusing on the socio-economic ecosystem linked to thermal power plants

Supporting Transition Planning

Identifying location-specific priorities and financial requirements for an inclusive transition

Strengthening Worker Unions

Supporting workers and unions in building capacity to negotiate their interests, secure their rights for long-term transition resilience, and increase participation in transition planning

Facilitating Consensus Building

Engaging with regulators, governments, and unions to align policies and practices with just energy transition goals

Advancing Inclusive Transition Governance

Exploring participative governance mechanisms to advance equity in opportunities and derisk transition risks
