A commitment to energy justice

Our mission is to advance just and inclusive energy governance for people and the planet.
The Centre for Energy, Environment & People is an exploration to find meaning, sensibility, and connectedness in a world that stands at the edge of a polycrisis—simultaneous and interconnected issues spanning social, environmental, and economic crises across the globe. Addressing the crisis demands a radical transformation of energy systems, and not just a technological shift from carbon-intensive to clean energy.
We had a humble beginning in 2018 as a group of naïve individuals who only saw dissonance between policy and technology. As we positioned ourselves at the intersection of communities and power sector institutions, we witnessed the complexity of systems, structures, and behaviors working to perpetuate inefficiencies, inequalities, and exploitation. Gradually, we built our capabilities, deepening our work around energy infrastructure and services.
CEEP has been an ardent, evidence-based advocate for consumer rights, improving planning efficiencies, building the capabilities of state institutions, and promoting a responsible clean energy transition on regulatory and policy platforms in Rajasthan. We have continuously worked towards improving the sector's competitiveness and strengthening public participation in decision-making, articulating the issues of consumers, workers, and government.
In recent years, our research focus has expanded to navigating the energy transition and strengthening governance for inclusive and equitable transition management. Our sub-national focus allows us to conceptualize the unique transition challenges and priorities for the state of Rajasthan.
CEEP's significant contributions are in furthering qualitative and quantitative understanding of the transition resilience of vulnerable workers in formal and informal jobs. Through our work, we strive to inform the language and priorities of energy and climate justice through the lens of workers and communities, advancing recognition, procedural, and distributive justice.

We envision democratic energy systems that restore the planet and enable dignified living for all.
We believe credible, actionable knowledge drives meaningful change. Our research is grounded in rigorous evidence, tailored to community contexts, and shared transparently to empower informed decision-making.
We value diverse perspectives and open dialogue as essential to building consensus. By working closely with stakeholders, we ensure our efforts uphold fairness and democratic principles while fostering mutual understanding.
We focus on those most affected by energy transitions, addressing systemic barriers and advocating approaches that advance equity, amplify marginalised voices, and promote justice for people and the planet.
