Electricity Governance

We advance consumer-centric policies and participative governance in the electricity sector.

The power sector is inherently complex, shaped by its technical, legal, and financial dimensions. With a planning horizon extending over a decade, it is challenging to identify and address present issues. Structural inefficiencies and the sector's political economy have systematically deprived electricity distribution companies of essential resources, worsening their struggles.

Rajasthan's power sector also faces burgeoning debt, inefficient operations, and poor-quality last-mile electricity supply and services. Opaque decision-making and declining institutional autonomy further perpetuate these inefficiencies.

CEEP advocates for systemic transformation through greater transparency, institutional strengthening, and a participative approach to inclusive electricity governance.

SC orders recovery of 50k Cr deferred power tariffs in Raj

CEEP's Senior Research Associate highlights the apex court's ruling. If the state govt does not intervene and pay the amount, the discoms will have to hike tariffs to recover the amount. According to estimates, the discos in the state need to raise electricity tariffs by at least 90 paise per unit from all consumers to recover the amount in seven years.
