Event Summary

Grid Se Ghar Tak is a training series by CEEP, in collaboration with RERC, to educate Rajasthan's electricity consumers on governance, rights, and responsibilities while fostering active participation in shaping a robust and consumer-focused power sector. The inaugural workshop happened in February 2023, and introduced the electricity sector, its challenges, policies, and citizen engagement to 46 participants, attending both in-person and virtually.

About the event

This training series is a consumer-centric initiative supported by the Rajasthan Electricity Regulatory Commission, Jaipur (RERC) and facilitated by the Centre for Energy, Environment & People (CEEP). It aims to empower individuals and social organisations in Rajasthan to actively participate in shaping the legal, policy, and regulatory landscape of the power sector.

The series intends to educate electricity consumers in Rajasthan on electricity governance, their rights and responsibilities, and how they can contribute to making the sector financially and technically sound. The various workshops in the series cover topics of consumer significance, including understanding electricity bills, metering, electricity safety, and determining electricity tariffs to name a few.

The first workshop offered an introduction to the electricity sector and an overview of its operation and planning challenges. It provided a comprehensive overview of electricity concepts and the power sector landscape in India, including policies, key institutions, the role of state regulatory commissions, and various aspects of power sector planning and citizen engagement. The workshop was conducted in a hybrid mode, with 19 persons present at RERC headquarters in Jaipur and 27 joining virtually.
